Hillbillies take mass transit!

Vancover had a nice sky train and a hop on/hop off tour bus company.   We weren't about to drive into Vancover in our trucks; the traffic was terrible. So, we drove to the closest train station and took the train in to town. Gone are the days when you actually purchase tickets and get information from a real person!  Fortunately there are a lot of nice people in Vancover and when they saw us looking perplexed they were very helpful. Anyway, we made it around this beautiful city.

The skytrain made an emergency stop on the way back; but other than that and getting off the train to soon once; it was a fun day!

Prince George, BC

We stayed at Bee Lazee campground. It was nice full hu's for $25. We decided to stay two nights and catch up on laundry and such.

We left Prince George enroute to Vancover. We stopped on the way to take a tram through hells gate

We were really hoping to see salmon but they had already had their first run. It was a neat historical area

The night before we stayed in Clinton, BC at Gold Trail RV. The owner was a hoot

We are finally in Vancover after a bad day towing in rain and horrible traffic. It was so bad I almost wished we were on the Alcan.   This park we are in now was horrible to try to find in the city. My nerves were shot by the time we got here. 

No sweet dreams from Vancover!  I can't wait to leave.

OK, I lied!

I thought we were done with Alaska but we decided to head back to the coast to visit Stewart, BC snd Hyder, AK.  The scenery on the 38 miles we went out of our way for was well worth it.

We went to a bear watch area

Only a couple of salmon and no bears so we were disappointed

At one time Hyder and Stewart were busy little towns. Now they are like ghost towns; very sad

We stayed at the Bear River campground. It was nice

There are very different road signs in this area

Chain up area; they also have chain removal areas

And there are avalanche closure gates

We traveled a few hundred miles and stopped at Mountain View Rv park. We tried to stay in a free forest service campground but it looked like no one had been there in years. We were lucky that we were able to turn around and get out. The road was horrible. 

We left Mountain View the next morning after the owner moved a broken down rv out of the road, and drove to Beaumont Provential Park at Frasier Lake. Nice park but $22 for no hookups is a little high

Goodbye Alaska

Last night was our last in Alaska so we went out for fish and chips. It was really good.

Before dinner we toured the Goldrush cemetery.  There is a beautiful waterfalls just above the cemetery so wear hiking shoes if you go. 

Again, I just had to put my toes in the water. 

It was pretty nippy. 

Skagways harbor has very few small boats and usually 4 cruise ships

The highway from Skagway to the Teslin loop is very scenic

And just when you think you have seen it all

At the end of the Teslin Loop we are back on the Alaska Hwy heading toward Watson Lake. Let the fun begin again

Whitehorse to Skagway

We went to several museums in whitehorse. One was the transportation museum and it had this huge weather vane. It was weird to watch it turn in the wind.

Another really neat thing in Whitehorse is the Fish Ladder. It was designed by the electric company that put a dam on the Yukon river to generate electricity for the area. But in doing this they prevented the salmon from making their way back to their birth area.  They developed this ladder waterway so that the fish can move   around the dam area. It is very neat and they have a webcam that you can watch the fish swim up the ladder. Unfortunately the salmon havent made it this far yet.   The salmon is an amazing fish when you learn about it's journey. 

We didnt stop much on the way from Whitehorse to Skagway because we had reservations  on the White Pass train and you never know how long a border crossing will take but the scenery was amazing and I should have pics on the way back

The train ride was nice with some really good  views. 

The train goes through two tunnels. 

The rail is along a very rocky mountain and is barely wide enough for the train

The path that the gold rushers took in 1898 is still evident. 

I honestly don't know how they made it.

The weather has really warmed up. So glad to be in short sleeves and sandels.
