Capital Reef National Park or Don't Lick the Rocks

The trip from Moab to Torrey was so beautiful.  We drove slow just to be able to take it all in.  The total trip was 156 miles and we stayed at Thousand Lakes RV Park in Torrey.  Full hook ups!

The first day in Torrey we just caught up on some housekeeping duties and of course had our fandango.  The fandangos are little "get togethers" for groups of 8 plus a host couple, just so that we can get to know these 62 people that we are traveling with on this adventure.

The second day we and our friend Jennifer toured Capital Reef.  There is a bakery/store in the park that had excellent pies and other pastries, so of course we had to stop and get some just in case it rained and we got stuck in the park with a flash flood, we would have something to eat!

This was called the mail tree.  People that settled here would hang their outgoing mail on the tree and it would be picked up and deliveries would be left here.

They mined uranium in this area....thus the don't lick the rocks!

 Petroglyphs in the Capital Gorge
The early settlers that came up through the Capital Gorge carved their names in the stone ledge as they passed through.
