Trains, boats, no planes

Yesterday we rode a river paddle boat to an ancient village. It was a good ride and we learned a lot of historical facts. They served salmon dip in the boat. It was very good.

Today we rode the train to an old gold mine area to pan for gold

Hiawatha found the most gold...$26.00
worth, i only found $13

Sweet dreams from Fairbanks!

You know you are in Alaska when the restroom sign is

Fairbanks via the North Pole!

We stopped at Delta Junction to tour their museum and have lunch. Delta Junction marks the end of the Alaska Hwy

They also have a neat statute of the state bird
The mosquito!!

We had lunch at The Drive In. It was crowded but when you are the only show in town..
Buffalo burger and rings

Just a little fun at the roadhouse museum

On the way here we stopped at North Pole, Alaska

And it wouldn't be the north pole without reindeer

Or at least some

Lol, sweet dreams from Fairbanks!

We Have Arrived!

Alaska Hwy?

You can't really call this a highway...more like a washboard road. We have averaged 12 mph on the "alaska hwy".  Good reason to fly to Alaska and rent a camper.  BTW, I would never buy a used motorhome up here, especially the rental units. They are poorly treated!

A few pics from our site at Lake Creek gov campground

And the white river, so named because it contains so much volcanic ash

This guy ran out on the road. Fortunately we were going 12 mph!

Frost Heaves Hwy

Well that isnt the real name of the road, but it certainly describes the Alaska Hwy between Whitehorse and Tok.

They place flags on the sides of the road where the heaves occur and that is really helpful.

Some pretty scenery along the way

Da Ku Cultural Center was extremely nice

Next stop Kluane Lake. It is such a beautiful blue color

What a strange area this is. We traveled all around Lake Kluane and it was windy like a desert and waves like an ocean. There is so very little traffic in this area.

You can see the wind blowing the dirt

We stopped here

It didn't look like much from the outside but they have a really nice exhibit. Well worth an hour and $4 cn

Sign Post Forest at Watson Lake, Yukon

Every town should have a gimmick. Watson lake has the sign post forest. It all started when one man decided to put up a sign from his home town. This was in the 1940's. It is wild to see the almost 85,000 signs in the side of the road. Tammy made a sign for us before we left Kentucky.

We also have traveled into Yukon Territory

We stayed in the Downtown RV park. $46 said they have cable tv and wifi, but neither worked. We are headed toward Whitehorse today where we crossed the Continental Divide.
